About the Moral Market Monitor
The problem
Sustainable Finance broadly refers to any form of financial service that has a potential positive impact on sustainable development goals (SDGs). The measurement of sustainability of a financial market as well as its impact is a complex task. It is largely unknown how sustainable financial markets really are around the world and whether the increasing sustainability of financial markets has had any direct effect on social issues, such as inequality and poverty.
The project
- The Moral Market Monitor is a research project tracking the sustainability of financial markets around the world and their potential impact on SDGs.
- We develop macro- and microeconomic indicators measuring the sustainability of financial markets for over 150 countries.
- The indicators numerically capture, track and rank countries' financial market sustainability over the last three decades.
- Our indicators can be used to analyze, at the macro-economic cross country level, whether changes in sustainable finance have had an impact on environmental and social issues.
